A Brief Hedgehog Update

I want to thank everyone who commented or emailed after reading my previous post about my sister Seana being in the ICU. I'm happy to share that she's back home now, after making an amazing turnaround. Although the doctors expected her to be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks, she managed to get better enough to head home in 3 weeks. She's not completely healthy just yet – breathing is still a bit difficult and her strength isn't quite up to par – but she's going to be just fine.

When they extubated her (meaning when she started breathing on her own again), it took several days for her to come around enough to fully understand what was going on around her. Eventually her health and awareness improved enough that it was safe to move her from the ICU to a regular floor. I spent several days with her there, just keeping her company and taking care of her as best I could. On one of those days, I shared with her all the comments and emails folks sent for her. She had tears in her eyes upon seeing the outpouring of love and concern everyone had for her. Just knowing there were people – many of whom she has never met – thinking good thoughts for her did wonders to boost her spirits. And, I'd be remiss to not mention that it did the same for me as well.

So, long story short: Thank you so very, very, very much.

In other news, you may have noticed we've been a bit quiet here on HedgehogsWithoutBorders lately. Now of course much of that in September was due to my sister being in the hospital. However prior to that sadness, we were quiet in August too. The reason? Our trusty laptop Dellie (the same laptop who served us so very well on our round-the-world trip) gave up the ghost. So for the entire month of August and a week or so into September, we were without a laptop and hence without a place to write.

We've since purchased a shiny new laptop (who we've named Woody) and are eager to get back up to speed again. There are many new stories to share (including a new story from Cape Cod about whale watching) as well as some previous stories/series we're still in the process of telling.

Of course, we also have our upcoming trip to India to talk and daydream about with you. And there's also the pit stop in Istanbul (one of our most favorite cities) that we'll be taking on the way to India!

So consider your trusty HedgehogsWithoutBorders open for storytelling again (save any laptop crashes or family illnesses, knock on wood). And let the storytelling begin!

(And just because you can never say thank you too many times -- Thank you again for being there for my family and especially for my sister Seana. I believe that so many good thoughts and prayers being said for her are one of the reasons she recovered so amazingly. You are all truly lovely.)

I am so happy to hear that your sister is doing much better. Nevertheless I shall keep you hedgehogs and your family members in my thoughts/prayers so things can keep looking up for all of you.

Sorry to hear about Dellie, but I'm glad to see that Woody is doing a good job so far. I got a laptop too and in honour of Dellie I named mine Della. She's a plain black Dell Inspiron (perfect for looking like a professional paralegal) and so far she's much better than the dinosaur of a Dell I had back in Canada.

Anyway, glad to hear.. er see that things are OK in your universe. Take care you too and know that Emily and I miss you both very, very, very much.

Glad you are all on the mend in body and spirit. Rest and chicken soup takes care of the body. Friends take care of spirits:)

Aww yay, thrilled to hear she is doing so much better!

New laptops are always fun. I only just got my first a year ago! Well, technically we had one back when I was in high school, from like 97 or 98 or something, if I recall, my dad took it back in like 99, to use for work, or something. lol. Anywho. What kind of laptop is it? Mine doesn't have a name… I feel like a bad laptop mom now. ;P

I know you guys enjoy the east a lot, and I know it is definitely a more budget-friendly way to go, but do you ever go anywhere more west? There's so many nice places out this way, too! :)
