Hedgehogs Without Borders

On March 3, 2005, Jessica and Tim set off on an epic 18-month round-the-world adventure. That trip may be over now, but the storytelling has only just begun!

This website is here both as a record of our trip and a resource for other travelers. Please feel free to leave us a comment at the bottom of our journal entries!

The Ultimate Resource for the Independent Traveller

BootsnAll.com is the ultimate resource for independent travellers. Whether you are planning a trip, actually on a trip, just back from a trip or simply thinking about travel, BootsnAll.com probably has a resource or two that may interest you.

Lonely Planet Online

Lonely Planet publishes the world’s best guidebooks for independent travellers. Their books are known worldwide for reliable, insightful, pull-no-punches travel information, maps, photos, and background historical and cultural information.

AirTreks

While we wound up not choosing to book our tickets through AirTreks, their website was an invaluable tool in planning our trip. Just use their TripPlanner utility to create your own multi-stop journey, and they’ll calculate the range or prices you’ll be looking at.

UCC XE.com

We’ve been using XE.com for our currency conversions, mostly because its name is so damn easy to remember.

UCC

Hostelz.com has hostel reviews and photos, and it’s the most complete hostels guide on the web (with over 14,000 listings). Guests can post comments about their own experience at hostels (about 19,000 comments have been posted so far).

We initially met professional chef Paul Reiss on the second day of our trip, during our first visit to Buenos Aires. He gave us a couple of cooking lessons when we visited him in Leeds, and the man is a fantastic teacher! If you’re lucky enough to live in his area, I highly reccommend checking out his website.

We met California native Chris Purdy when we were in Argentina. Chris is an award-winning professional photographer whose work has been exhibited in galleries and public spaces in San Francisco and Southern California. He’s currently preparing for an October 2006 show of his Argentina work.

Hey you two world travelin’ hell raisers!! Did you guys get my first attempted email?? So, have you met many interesting people on your journey?? Did I ever mention my older brother to you guys?? I’m sure I did…if not, here’s his website http://www.johndaub.net/ Ignore the “what’s your favorite childhood x-mas gift” video my brother did…but you should check out some of his links…he’s got narratives from his travels that I think you guys would appreciate more than the average American…

He’s been living in Japan for years, but has ventured around this world I think 8 times!! And he doesn’t go to those touristy areas…in fact, I think you guys should try to get in touch with him…and if you’re planning a trip to Japan, be sure to let him know…he speaks the language fluently and knows the entire country…

Basically, I figured that there’s a mutual interest for the Hedehogs to meet John Daub…and by the way…drop me a line!!

Safe travels Tim ‘n Jessica…great, friendly site design by the way…I’m liking the photos too!! Hope to talk to y’all sooner or later??

NAD (can you believe those are really my initials)

Just a quick note to say that we had been getting a lot of spam on this page, so we’ve turned off the comments (on this page only) for now. :)

(Which, really, is just as well since this page is drastically underdeveloped.) :)
