While daydreaming about traveling can be nice, sometimes you just want to get down to the nitty gritty of it all. Travel Tip Tuesdays is our way of exploring some of the "How To" questions. It's a place where we impart some lessons learned. And, above all, we hope it's a resource for other travelers daring to live their dreams too.

For most of us, researching before traveling is a lot of fun. It lets us daydream without even leaving our house. And while it's not absolutely necessary, a little research before you travel (or while you're on the road) might save you a few headaches along the way.

Guidebooks and "must sees" and UNESCO heritage sites be damned. We all need to stick our toes in the sand now and again, and not give two hoots about anything else.

It can be difficult to understand feeling homesick when you're in a faraway land. With so many new things around to experience - some of which might be once in a lifetime experiences - it's easy to think you should just be able to snap out of any funk. But just because you're on the road doesn't mean your emotions aren't with you too.

I knew before we left on our round-the-world trip there would be times when I'd have to use the fine art of haggling. Hailing from the US where haggling isn't done, I felt a mixture of excitement and dread. What if I paid too much? What if I appeared greedy? Or worse, what if I haggled in a place where it wasn't appropriate to do so?
