Twelve Favorite Photos from India

India is a photographer's dream. The golden tones of the desert, the intricately detailed temples, the blindingly bright saris, the magnificence of forgotten forts, the flowing chaos of cities, and the constant movement of one billion people all compete for your attention and beg to be remembered.

Although we were only in India for two weeks, we took nearly 2,700 photos during our time there. (Even for us, that's quite a lot!) But even on the days we didn't touch our camera, I know my mind's eye was constantly snapping photos. There is hardly a moment we were in India that isn't a heady mixture of colors and sounds and movement in my memory.

We've only seen the smallest fraction of India, but what we've seen so far took our breath away. The photos that follow are some of our favorites during our time there. Take a peek to see why we'll definitely be returning again.

'Sleeping cow, sleeping moto

'A donkey waits patiently while workers load him up with construction materials and traffic drives past

'Eeyore has never been prouder

'A rare quiet street with beautiful crumbling buildings on either side

'The walls of Kumbalgarh Fort are second in length in the world after the Great Wall of China

'The views from the top of the fort were breathtaking

'A gorgeous array of colors often met our eyes on every street in India

'Ranakpur – a Jain temple with an ethereal feel – has 1,444 marble pillars; no two are said to be alike

'The view from our balcony: Udaipur's famous Lake Palace Hotel floating in the middle of Lake Pichola

'Just another day in India traffic: cows, motos, auto rickshaws, vendors, and pedestrians all seamlessly share the road

'A view of the ghats and the crumbling facades of Udaipur's gorgeous lakeside buildings

'Located in Ellora, this is one of the most humbling temples we've ever visited in the world
