Nine Photos from Bogota, Colombia

Although we were only in Bogota for a handful of days, we saw an amazing amount of sights during our short time there. (A particularly amazing amount when you consider how slow hedgehogs travel normally!) During our stay we visited several museums, took in a street fair, traveled by cable car to the top of Monserrate, and ate at numerous restaurants and street carts.

But throughout all our experiences, the sights and sounds found along the numerous calles and carreras were the most intoxicating. Whether it was vendors selling fresh fruit, brightly painted buildings, or beautiful graffiti, colors as varied as the rainbow tied Bogota together. We've picked out a few of our favorite photos from our time there to show you this multi-colored tapestry.

'In the Candeleria neighborhood, many of the colonial buildings were painted in bright yellows, blues, greens, and reds

'A typical scene on a corner in Bogota's business district

'The bright blue houses were always the first to catch my eye during our walks through town

'Parque Santander, located in front of Bogota's famous Gold Museum, was a great spot for people watching

'This was one of the colorful little pups we saw successfully begging for food from locals and tourists in Plaza de Bolivar

'A handful of buildings had some intriguing and colorful graffiti on them. And if you look closely in this one, you can see two hedgehogs and a Klaus in the reflection.

'The Catedral Primada, located in Plaza de Bolivar, stands on the site where the first mass may have been celebrated in Bogota and is home to hundreds of pigeons too

'On top of Monserrate: the city is to the right in this photo (not pictured), while the Fallen Christ (the patch of white showing up against the dark mountain) is in the background

'The Church of Candeleria shows up brilliantly against the blue sky of a Bogota morning

Thanks, Deb! I'm particularly fond of the doggy photo. Watching her (with her pitiful brown eyes) con food out of unsuspecting folks eating their lunches on the steps in front of the church was very entertaining! :)

P.S. I'll shoot you the names of the places we stayed in Mexico City this weekend. I can't remember what we paid (and I know it's different than what each place has listed online) so I want to hunt around in our "trip memories" box for our notes. :)

I love your photos, Klaus! Your photos of the El Dorado raft turned out spectacularly. And I had completely forgotten about the fabulous graffiti that we saw on that corner during the street fair. And Super Perro! Oh Super Perro, how could I ever forget thee? :)

We miss you guys so, so, so much! :)
