Eight videos from the Galapagos Islands

From time to time, your two traveling hedgehogs enjoy sharing some of the videos we've taken while traveling. The eight videos highlighted below were all shot in the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador in August 2005 during our around-the-world trip. Enjoy!

The Galapagos Islands Welcoming Party
Filmed on Isla Española during one of our first encounters with the wildlife in the Galapagos Islands, we quickly learned just how friendly the natives can be!

Courting Dance of Wave Albatrosses
On Isla Española in the Galapagos, the wave albatrosses do an elaborate courting dance. Listen closely to this video: the sounds they make are adorable.

Giant Tortoises In the Highlands
The Galapagos Islands are named after the giant tortoises that inhabit them (galapagos is Spanish for "tortoise"). We came across these two tortoises on Isla Santa Cruz.

A Giant Tortoise Goes On Walkabout
The giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands can be found all throughout the jungle and the highlands of Isla Santa Cruz. This guy was hugely tall and cruising (okay, moving at turtle-neck speed) through the underbrush.

Tiny Godzilla In Motion
Found only in the Galapagos Islands, marine iguanas look like teeny-tiny godzillas. We were lucky enough to swim with several of them during our trip, but this guy prefers to saunter on the dry land of James Island.

Adorable Baby Fur Seal
Baby fur seals are about as cute as can be! Filmed on our second to last day in the Galapagos Islands, we enjoyed watching this little one try to navigate over the lava rock formations that make up James Island.

Baby Fur Seal Calls For His Mom
Mom! Come back! Listen as this baby fur seal calls after his mama who waddles away to investigate the latest guests (us!) to Seymour Island in the Galapagos.

A Dolphin Send-Off
On our last full day in the Galapagos Islands, we were sailing for Isla San Cristobal and the airport. Imagine our surprise when hundreds of dolphins surrounded the boat, giving us a real Galapagos send-off.
